Greek online lessons with Sofia

“Learning a language is an exciting and satisfying adventure, offering the learner the opportunity to become immersed in a culture and its customs".

What I always say to my students is that 'in every job that must be done there is an element of fun'. Thus, I create a structured and at the same time flexible and stress-free environment, which enables free flow of thought and allows for pleasant surprises, but it can re-direct attention to a clearly determined set of goals.

I teach all sort of nationalities; cultural reference is one of the most important components of my lessons as it is proven to be an enjoyable and effective learning strategy.

I am interested in sharing my knowledge and love of the Greek language and culture with people all over the world.

I don't want to be the classic teacher; I consider myself f a facilitator that will guide you in this journey of the Greek language.

Teaching approach

Sofia adopts a student-centred, interactive teaching approach, with emphasis on conversational and listening skills through which students will get a better understanding of Greek vocabulary and grammar rules.

She organises and structures lessons based on students’ needs, interest, age and level, respecting their rhythm to learn and offering relaxing, comfortable and engaging environment to practice the language. In the first lesson, she would love to find out more about students’ interests, goals, and motivation to learn Greek. Likewise, the first lesson presents a valuable opportunity for her to consider students ‘needs and feelings, and allows her devise a learning plan that is suitable and enjoyable for them.

She also creates exercises that are useful for students to practice different skills and boost their self-esteem. In addition, she uses examples and real-life situations to help students understand how the Greek language works and how to apply it to their own experience.  She shares videos for listening and understanding or you would start a conversation after reading a text. She can also introduce a topic in each lesson, so students can learn new vocabulary and grammar through different activities. Such activities could be reading, listening, role-playing and other visual games.

Her teaching materials are also:

Video and audio files (such as music)
PDF file
Text Documents/textbooks
Image files
Articles and news
Homework Assignments
Quizzes
Presentation slides/PPT

Of course language is not only grammar and vocabulary, therefore, she provides an insight into Greek culture, history, music, and food, even recommendations for holidays.

She enjoys teaching people from different backgrounds, ages and cultures, as it is an opportunity to learn from each other.

She has a passion for teaching, but learning too. Over the last three years, I have been learning Spanish. Finally, she is also an art and history lover.

"Sofia is easy to work with, and creates very engaging lessons for her students from the start. She truly understands and adapts to the student's learning style, noting the differences between adult and children learners, and paying careful attention to why the student wants to learn.  I feel increasing confidence not only in my ability to understand and speak Greek, but in my understanding of the country and the culture." (Liz).
