Greek lessons with Sofia
“Learning a language is an exciting and satisfying adventure, offering the learner the opportunity to become immersed in a culture and its customs".
What I always say to my students is that 'in every job that must be done there is an element of fun'. Thus, I create a structured and at the same time flexible and stress-free environment, which enables free flow of thought and allows for pleasant surprises, but it can re-direct attention to a clearly determined set of goals.
I teach people from all over the world; cultural reference is one of the most important components of my lessons as it is proven to be an enjoyable and effective learning strategy.
I am interested in sharing my knowledge and love of the Greek language and culture with people all over the world.
I don't want to be the classic teacher; I consider myself a facilitator that will guide you in this journey of the Greek language.
I would be very happy to show you the magic world of the Greek language. There is no way we cannot find together for you to enjoy the process and turn the information into knowledge which will be yours forever.

About Me
I am Greek tutor to native and non-native speakers since 2018. I currently live in Leicester in the UK and she teaches people worldwide. I create individualised lessons plans and materials tailored to students’ ages, backgrounds, knowledge levels, cognitive development, emotional intelligence, needs and interests. I always ensure that lessons are fun, interactive and fully-prepared. I enjoy tutoring and her students consider her having a caring, supportive and encouraging approach. My aim is to make lessons relaxed yet productive. I have tweaked students in the past to achieve much higher than their predicted goals. I am patient teacher who delights in her students’ achievement.

Education
Academic Background
I hold a BA in Cultural Technology and Commuication from the University of Aegean; Postgraduate diploma in Museum Education from the Trent Nottingham University, Master's degree in n Art Museum and Gallery at the University of Leicester, PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies from the University of Leicester. In addition, I received a certificate for the teaching of foreign/second language from the Open University in the UK and postgraduate certificate in Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Leicester.

Teaching approach
I adopt a student-centred, interactive teaching approach, with emphasis on conversational and listening skills through which
students will get a better understanding of Greek vocabulary and grammar rules.
I organise and structure lessons based on students’ needs, interest, age and level, respecting their rhythm to learn and offering relaxing,
comfortable and engaging environment to practice the language. In the first lesson, I would love to find out more about
students’ interests, goals, and motivation to learn Greek. Likewise, the first lesson presents a valuable opportunity for me to
consider students ‘needs and feelings, and allows me devise a learning plan that is suitable and enjoyable for them.
I also create exercises that are useful for students to practice different skills and boost their self-esteem. In addition, I use examples
and real-life situations to help students understand how the Greek language works and how to apply it to their own experience.
I share videos for listening and understanding or you would start a conversation after reading a text.
I can also introduce a topic in each lesson, so students can learn new vocabulary and grammar through different activities.
Such activities could be reading, listening, role-playing and other visual games.
My teaching materials are:
Video and Music
Text Documents/textbooks
Image files
Articles and news
Short stories
Role plays in real scenarios
Quizzes
Presentation slides/PPT
I also accommodate individual preferences
Of course language is not only grammar and vocabulary, therefore, I provide an insight into Greek culture, history, music, and food, even recommendations for holidays.
I enjoy teaching people from different backgrounds, ages and cultures, as it is an opportunity to learn from each other.
I have a passion for teaching, but learning too. Over the last three years, I have been learning Spanish.
Finally, I am also an art and history lover.
